How Our Made-to-Measure Roman Blind Service Works
Choose Your Fabric
Start by choosing a fabric that works with your room. Compare the available colours, patterns and textures online, or visit the Blaydon-on-Tyne showroom to view fabrics in person.
Measure Your Window
Decide whether the blind will sit inside or outside the recess. Measure the width and drop carefully, following our Roman blind measuring guide before submitting your dimensions.
Order Your Blind
Enter your measurements, then select the options available for your blind. These may include your lining choice and whether you want the control on the left or right.
Made and Delivered
Your Roman blind is made to the measurements and options supplied with your order. Production times can vary depending on the fabric, availability, and the options selected for your blind.
Which Roman Blind Works Best for Your Room?
Consider the Fabric
Fabric affects both the appearance of the blind and how it folds when raised. Think about the weight, texture and pattern rather than choosing on colour alone.
Patterned fabrics can create more of a focal point, while simpler designs may work better when other furnishings already carry strong colours or prints.
Decide How Much Light You Want
Your lining choice can change how much light passes through the blind. Standard lining suits rooms where reducing light is not the main priority, while blackout lining provides greater light control.
Check the options shown for your chosen fabric before ordering, as lining availability can vary.
Choose Inside or Outside the Recess
An inside-recess blind creates a neat fit within the window opening. An outside-recess blind extends beyond the window opening. With sufficient overlap, an outside-recess blind can help reduce the amount of light entering around the sides of the blind.
The Curtain Store recommends allowing additional overlap when measuring for an outside-recess blind.
Match the Blind to the Room
For bedrooms, blackout lining can be useful when reducing incoming light is a priority.
In living rooms, fabric design and how the blind works with existing furnishings may be more important. For bathrooms, check that the specific fabric is suitable for the conditions before ordering.
Blackout vs Standard Lining Roman Blinds
The right lining depends on how you use the room. Standard sateen lining adds a finished layer behind the face fabric and is available in white or ivory on current made to measure Roman blind options. It suits rooms where complete light blocking is not required.
Blackout lining is designed to reduce more incoming light. Blackout Roman blinds are therefore a practical option for bedrooms, nurseries and other spaces where you want greater control over brightness.
If you are specifically looking for thermal performance, check the available lining options on the individual blind before ordering. Thermal lining should not be assumed to be available across every Roman blind design.
Standard Sateen Lining
Adds a finished layer behind the face fabric and suits rooms where complete light blocking is not required.
Blackout Lining
Designed to reduce more incoming light and provide greater light control.
Measuring & Ordering: What to Check
Measure the Width and Drop
Measure the width first and then the drop. For an inside-recess blind, follow our Roman blind measuring guide carefully when taking the width and drop, including its instructions on which measurements to submit.
Check Pattern Placement
If you choose a patterned fabric, consider how the design will appear across the finished blind. Larger repeats can create a different effect from smaller or more subtle patterns.
Choose Your Fitting Position
Decide whether your Roman blind will sit inside or outside the window recess when taking your final measurements. Outside-recess blinds require additional coverage around the window.
Check the Winder Position
You will need to choose which side of the blind operates the control. Check nearby furniture, handles, and other obstructions before deciding between the left or right side.
Follow Child-Safety Guidance
Roman blinds are supplied with child-safety components. The Curtain Store's measuring guidance states that blinds must be fitted with the required chain safety bracket, with cords and controls kept appropriately secured.
